Canadian English
Real videos of real people from Canada. Hear how they talk and the words they use every day.
Canadian English is spoken by about 30 million people in Canada. It sounds a lot like American English, but there are some clear differences. One is called Canadian raising: words like about and house start with a higher sound. This is why some people joke that people in Canada say aboot instead of about. It is a bit of a joke, not exactly true. The same thing happens in words like right and write. People in Canada also spell some words the British way, like colour and centre. Many people in Canada add eh? at the end of what they say. Canadian English is easy to understand if you already know American English. It also has some words from British and French, for things like food and government.
