German grammar
German Verbs
Verbs are a big part of German. This page covers modal verbs, the passive, and other small things people use all the time.
Class German Verbs
These are the forms taught in German classes all over the world. We show them with real videos, not made-up ones.
Modal Verbs
Modal verb (können / müssen / wollen / sollen / dürfen / mögen) + main verb in its base form
German uses modal verbs all the time: to say what you must do, can do, or want to do. The main verb goes to the end.
Passive Voice with werden
werden + the done form of the verb
This passive form (Vorgangspassiv) uses werden to say something is being done. It is different from the other passive form, with sein.
