European Portuguese (Português Europeu)

European Portuguese is spoken in Portugal. If you learned Brazilian Portuguese first, it can sound like a new language. Many small sounds get very short. This makes European Portuguese sound different and quick. People say "tu" for you, not the Brazilian word "você". Some words are different: "autocarro" for bus, not "ônibus". "telemóvel" for phone, not "celular". On this page, you hear real European Portuguese in short videos. If your ear is used to Brazilian Portuguese, go slow at first. Once you get used to it, you can understand Portugal and other places that speak Portuguese, like parts of Africa.
