Chinese, where the tone is part of the word.

Real short-form videos from native Mandarin speakers. Characters tell you what a word means; only the spoken form tells you how it sounds — and tone is half of that.

About comprehensible input in Chinese

What is comprehensible input?

Comprehensible input is language you can mostly follow, with a small amount that is still new. The idea is often associated with Stephen Krashen: people acquire language by understanding meaningful messages, not only by memorizing rules in isolation. Mandarin needs this especially, because the writing system gives you the meaning of a word but not the sound — the tones have to come from hearing, not from looking.

Why real reels, not textbook dialogues

Textbook Mandarin tends to slow down, pronounce each tone clearly, and avoid the casual shortcuts speakers actually use. Real Mandarin runs faster, uses sentence-final particles like ba, ne, and la to carry tone and intent, and varies noticeably between Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, and the wider Chinese-speaking world. Reelang uses unscripted short-form video from native speakers so those features arrive in context, where they make sense.

How to use this library

Start with your level, then choose a listening difficulty you can mostly follow. From there, browse by topic depending on what you want to work on. If you can read characters comfortably and listening still slips past, the gap is almost always tones and rhythm — and both respond to exposure better than to drilling. Pick topics you would watch anyway and stay in clips you can mostly follow.
