What is a “boekverslag” in Dutch high school?
Ruzie om een stom boek voor het boekverslag
A2 Dutch listening practice · Dutch · Picked for people who know a little
A boekverslag is the book-report Dutch high-schoolers write for Nederlands class. The teacher hands out a boekenlijst, the canon of Dutch and translated works the Eindexamen requires, and students have to read a fixed minimum (8–12 books for vwo) and submit a written response per book. The list rotates: Multatuli, Hella Haasse, Cees Nooteboom, Tommy Wieringa, Arnon Grunberg. Generations of students have hated, plagiarized, or quietly grown up on the same titles.
In this maximeandsophie sketch, two friends fight over the last copy of a required book: “Dit ben ik nodig voor mijn boekverslag.” The escalation: “Ik wil het stomme boek niet, bam. Ik wil dat boek.”
