💡 Did you know?
книжка (knizhka)
Russian everyday diminutive
“book” in casual speech; not necessarily a small one

Книга is “book”; книжка is the same book said warmly and casually. The -ка ending is a diminutive, but here it doesn’t mean small: a thick novel can still be книжка when you chat with a friend. Книга sounds a little more neutral or formal, the word on a library sign; книжка is what people say over coffee.

Russian does this with many everyday nouns: вода → водичка, чай → чаёк, минута → минутка. Watch for the consonant change: книга → книжка, нога → ножка. The clip asks it directly: вот книга или книжка? Both answers are right.
