Zelf je fietsband plakken stap voor stap
A2 Dutch listening practice · Dutch · Curated for beginners
How do Dutch cyclists “fietsband plakken”?
Fietsband plakken (“patching a bicycle inner tube”) is a basic Dutch DIY skill. With more bikes than people in the Netherlands, every Dutch household tends to keep a bandenplakset somewhere — usually in the garage, schuur, or a fietsenmaker-bought toolkit. The procedure is the same as anywhere (find the puncture, sand the rubber, apply solution and plakker, wait, mount), but Dutch parents teach it to kids around age 10 as part of basic fietsonafhankelijkheid. Het Klokhuis and Schooltv both run instructional segments. Most Dutch bibliotheken and community centers also offer free fietsen-repareren workshops.
In this clip, Klokhuis launches a how-to: “Iedere keer weer naar de fietsenmaker, terwijl het helemaal niet moeilijk is om je fietsband zelf te plakken.”
