What does “me cuadra” mean in Spanish?

Me cuadra means something fits, lines up, or makes sense to you. The verb cuadrar literally means “to make square / square up” (think of numbers balancing in a ledger), so me cuadra is “it squares with me.” Use it for logic — no me cuadra esta historia (“this story doesn’t add up”) — and for taste — esa opción me cuadra más (“that option suits me better”). The negative no me cuadra is the everyday way to flag that something feels off.

Same root as cuadrar las cuentas (“to balance the accounts”) and cuadrado (“square”): the metaphor is of pieces fitting neatly into a square frame. In the clip — a celebrity-guessing panel on Mask Singer — an investigator zeroes in on a suspect with es que me cuadra todo (“it’s just that everything fits”), the exact “all the clues line up” use.
