A2 Dutch listening practice · Dutch · Curated for beginners
Gooische Vrouwen is the Dutch comedy-drama about four wealthy women in Het Gooi, the leafy commuter belt outside Amsterdam where Dutch celebrities buy villa-with-tennis-court. Linda de Mol created and starred in it; the series ran 2005–2009 on RTL with two films afterward, and it’s the closest thing Dutch TV has to a Sex and the City equivalent. The Gooische dialect (the rich-Hilversum accent) is its own register, and the show coined or popularized half the affectionate Dutch insults for the wealthy: Gooische R, kakker, bekakt.
In this Videoland clip, the women toast: “Op ons. Op ons.” Followed by a panicked: “Dit is niet wat je denkt. Is mijn vriendin Roelie.”
