How do you say “to grandma’s” in Russian?
Куда ты едешь: примеры с глаголом «ехать»
A1 Russian listening practice · Russian · Picked for people who know a little
To go to a place, Russian uses в or на: в школу, на работу. To go to a person, it uses к: я еду к друзьям, “I’m going to my friends' (place),” вы едете к бабушке?, “are you going to grandma’s?” You never say в бабушку. Think of к like French chez: it points at someone, and their home is understood.
After к the person takes the dative ending: друзья → к друзьям, бабушка → к бабушке, врач → к врачу (“to the doctor’s”). The verb ехать adds that you’re going by transport; on foot it would be идти к друзьям. The clip’s list ends with a surprise: они едут в тюрьму.
