💡 Did you know?
przewietrzyć się
Polish everyday reflexive idiom
“to get some fresh air,” literally “to air oneself out”

Przewietrzyć is what you do to a stuffy room: open a window and let the air move through. Add się and the same verb turns on the person, so idę się przewietrzyć means “I’m going out for some air,” a short walk to clear your head or pass the time. The verb grows from wiatr, “wind,” so the picture is a small breeze blowing through you.

In the clip, the man has been told “jeszcze 5 minut” and “na pewno 5 minut” one time too many, so he says he will go przewietrzyć się while he waits. The same root gives wietrzyć, “to air (out),” and wietrzenie, the airing of a room, so you will meet it in flats and hotels as well as in this kind of walk.
