What does “faque” mean in Quebec French?

Fait que is the workhorse “so” of Quebec French. It hooks a cause to whatever comes next, and in speech it collapses to faque: Faque là, on est partis. Shortened from ça fait que, it does the job donc, alors or du coup do in France — often less as a strict “therefore” than as a way of keeping the sentence rolling.

It travels in a pair with là, giving faque là, which pushes a story forward like “so then.” Recognising it matters more than producing it: faque is so frequent in spoken Québécois that missing it means losing the joins between clauses. French speakers in France have noticed the resemblance to their own du coup, which fills exactly the same slot.
