What does “aufgeräumt” mean in German?
Aufgeräumt means tidy or cleared up — a room where everything has been put away in its place rather than left lying around. It describes the result of tidying, not the act itself. You hear it about rooms, desks, bags, and entranceways: if a space looks aufgeräumt, nothing is out of place. About a person it can also mean cheerful or in a good mood, but for spaces it simply means neat and in order.
Spoken line: “und dass alles dann aufgeräumt ist” — “and so everything is then tidy.” He is planning built-in closets for his entryway and wants space for all the jackets and shoes so the whole entrance looks aufgeräumt: each thing in its spot, nothing dumped by the door. “Mein Zimmer ist aufgeräumt” (My room is tidy). “Der Schreibtisch sieht aufgeräumt aus” (The desk looks neat). The word comes from “aufräumen” — to tidy up: “Ich muss noch die Küche aufräumen” (I still need to tidy the kitchen).
