💡 Did you know?

What does “do meu jeito” mean in Portuguese?

do meu jeito
Brazilian "my way" pattern
“my way,” “the way I want it”

Jeito means a particular way of doing something — a style, a manner, a knack. Add a possessive and do meu jeito becomes “my way,” same idea as the English “I did it my way.” In a tense Netflix drama scene, a man facing terminal cancer insists on writing this final chapter himself: eu morro do meu jeito — “I’ll die my way.” The pattern is completely reusable: do seu jeito, do nosso jeito, cada um do seu jeito.

The pattern is Sinatra-simple: jeito + possessive = “in [x]'s way.” Cada um do seu jeito (“to each their own”) softens disagreements, faço do meu jeito asserts independence, and à sua maneira is the more formal cousin of the same idea.
