💡 Did you know?

What does “puesto” mean in Spanish?

puesto
Spanish market word
market stall“ — literally a ”placed“ spot; also ”job

At any street market, each vendor’s stand is a puesto — from poner, “to put”: literally a spot someone has set up. Un puesto de tacos is a taco stand; a market is really a maze of puestos. The same word means a job or position — un puesto de trabajo — so conseguí un buen puesto could be a stall or a career move. Context decides.

The clip’s toy hunt drowns in them: “Había tantos puestos que mi hermano y yo ya no sabíamos dónde ir y se nos hizo interminable.” Related forms: un puesto ambulante is a mobile street stand, un puesto callejero any street stall. In a race or ranking, puesto is also your place: terminó en tercer puesto.
