What does “zibala” (زبالة) mean in Arabic?

The story opens with a girl who رمت الزبالة — threw the trash — into a hole. زبالة is the word for garbage you’ll hear from Cairo to Riyadh, while textbooks teach the formal قمامة or نفايات. It comes from the old root زبل (manure, once the farm’s universal waste), and it gives Arabic its garbage man: the زبّال, who collects it.

Like English “garbage,” it moonlights as an insult of quality — a terrible movie is simply زبالة. The clip’s other useful verb is Gulf-flavored يطيح — “to fall” (into the hole the litterer left), where other dialects say وقع. The heroine and her dog flag the hazard with a stick and basket, and the closing line laments that ما أحد أعطاها — no one gave her credit.
