Wolf loopt door straat tijdens fietsexamen in Hengelo
A2 Dutch listening practice · Dutch · Curated for beginners
How did the wolf return to the Netherlands?
The wolf in Nederland is one of the country’s most-discussed wildlife stories. The wolf was hunted to local extinction in the Netherlands by the 1860s and stayed gone for over a century and a half. The first confirmed return came in 2015, with the first verified pack on the Veluwe (the country’s largest forested nature area) in 2019. The wolf is now a protected species under the Wet natuurbescherming, but its return triggers ongoing tension with sheep farmers, who lose livestock and lobby for afschot (culling) policies.
In this clip, a wolf wanders through a Hengelo fietsexamen: “Terwijl ze door de stad fietsten rende een wolf door de straten.”
