What does “c’est le bordel” mean in French?
C’est le bordel is how French describes a room, a schedule or an entire organisation in complete disarray. The word’s other, older meaning is a brothel; the “mess” sense grew out of it in the late 1800s and is now what you hear day to day. It has not gone polite in the process, though — it is fine among friends and wrong in a meeting, an exam or a stranger’s kitchen.
Le bazar is the safe swap: the same picture of clutter with no rude edge, as in quel bazar dans cette chambre. If you want to describe a mess in front of people you have just met, that is the word to reach for.
