Lóháton, amikor pisilni kell
A2 Hungarian listening practice · Hungarian · Curated for beginners
What does “megkönnyebbül” mean in Hungarian?
Megkönnyebbül is built straight from könnyű (light) plus könnyebb (lighter): to “become lighter,” i.e. to feel relief once a worry lifts off you. Like English “relieved,” it carries a gentle bodily double meaning — relieving yourself — which is exactly the joke when someone asks, after a bathroom break, “Megkönnyebbültél?” The word lets you sound delicate about a very undelicate need.
Keep the family in view: könnyű (light/easy) → könnyebb (lighter) → megkönnyebbül (to be relieved) → megkönnyebbülés (relief). The neutral verb for the physical act is the blunter “vécére megy” (go to the toilet) or “pisil” (pee), so reaching for megkönnyebbül is the polite, slightly playful choice — the same register move as English “feeling much lighter now.”
