What does “wrzątek” mean in Polish?

English needs two words for “boiling water”; Polish has one: wrzątek, from wrzeć, “to boil.” It’s the word on every tea bag and instant-soup packet — zalać wrzątkiem, “pour boiling water over” — and exactly what the creator of this chaotic drink does: będę zalewał te owocki wrzątkiem, “I’ll pour boiling water over these fruits.” One noun, straight from the kettle.

The verb family is worth knowing: wrzeć (to boil, also used for tempers and revolutions — miasto wrze, “the city is seething”), wrzący (boiling hot as an adjective), and zawrzeć in the water sense.
