💡 Did you know?

What is the difference between “wake up” and “get up”?

wake up
Common English phrasal verb
Wake up means to stop sleeping; get up means to leave the bed.

Wake up and get up are not the same. Wake up means you stop sleeping. Your eyes open. But you can still be in bed. Get up means you leave the bed. You stand up and start your day. So first you wake up, then you get up. Many learners mix these two. A small word makes a big difference here. You wake up at 7. Then you get up at 7:10.

The clip shows a person in bed. The voice says they wake up, then they get up. Out of bed. This is the key idea: open your eyes first, then leave the bed. What time do you wake up and get out of bed?
