What does “avoir la pêche” mean in French?
Avoir la pêche means being full of energy and in good spirits, with nothing to do with fruit on a plate. J’ai la pêche aujourd’hui is “I’m feeling great today.” French keeps a small family of these: avoir la patate and avoir la frite say much the same thing, while avoir la banane shifts it slightly towards wearing a big grin.
The usual explanation for avoir la banane is the shape — a banana curve looks like a wide smile. Avoir la pêche has no settled origin; boxing slang, where avoir de la pêche means having a hard punch, is one guess among several. Worth carrying as usage rather than as etymology.
