What is the difference between der Pony and das Pony in German?
In German, Pony means two completely unrelated things, and only the article tells you which. Der Pony (masculine) is the fringe of hair across your forehead — “bangs” in American English. Das Pony (neuter) is the small horse. Say “Ich trage einen Pony” and you’re talking hairstyles; switch to das and you’ve put a little horse on your head. The clip flags it outright: “Achtung, das Pony ist etwas anderes.”
This is one of German’s classic gender-splits, where der/das isn’t decoration but the actual meaning-carrier — like der See (“lake”) versus die See (“sea”). The animal word is das Pony; the hairstyle word is der Pony. Here the article carries the meaning — get it wrong and a German pictures the wrong thing entirely.
