How do you say “brush your teeth” in Polish?
In Polish you don’t brush your teeth — you wash them: myję zęby. Myć is the same all-purpose washing verb used for hands (myć ręce), dishes (myć naczynia), and windows. The brush itself still exists — szczoteczka do zębów, “little brush for teeth” — but the action is always myć. Translate “brush” word-for-word and Poles will understand you; they just never say it that way.
The morning-routine clip runs the collocation in its natural habitat: myję zęby szczoteczką — “I wash my teeth with a toothbrush.” The rest of the bathroom kit follows the same do pattern: pasta do zębów (toothpaste), szczoteczka do zębów. And note the plural: one ząb, many zęby — one of Polish’s classic vowel-swapping nouns.
