💡 Did you know?

What does “te sienta de maravilla” mean in Spanish?

te sienta de maravilla
Spanish compliment pattern
“it looks great on you,” from sentar bien = to suit someone

In Spanish, sentar bien does not mean “to sit.” When you talk about how something looks on a person, te sienta bien means “it suits you” or “it looks good on you.” Push it higher and you get te sienta de maravilla — “it looks wonderful on you.” So ese color te sienta de maravilla means that color looks great on you.

Here it is said to a plant as a joke: Ese verde te sienta de maravilla (“that green looks wonderful on you”). Many learners mix up sentar (to suit, for clothes and colors) with sentarse (to sit down). For clothes you can also say te queda bien, which means about the same thing.
