What does “el suelo” mean in Spanish?

El suelo means “the floor” or “the ground.” Beginners often only learn el piso, but in Spain suelo is the everyday word for the floor you walk on, while piso there usually means a flat or apartment. So sentarse en el suelo means “to sit on the floor.” It is a simple, high-use noun that comes up at home, in class, and outdoors.
