How do you say “peach” in Spanish — melocotón or durazno?

There are two common Spanish words for the same fruit, the peach. In Spain people say melocotón, while across most of Latin America people say durazno. They mean exactly the same fruit. If you learn one and travel, the other can surprise you, so it helps to know both. This video is from Spain, so it uses melocotón.

The clip lists summer fruit: Las cerezas, el melocotón, los albaricoques (“cherries, peach, apricots”). A learner in Mexico or Argentina would expect durazno there instead — same fruit, different region.
