What does “deuktem” mean in Korean?

득템 is what you say when you walk away with something good, normally something cheap: 오늘 득템했어, “I scored today.” It welds the Sino-Korean 득 (得, to obtain) onto 템, the tail end of 아이템. The word came out of online gaming, where you 득템 by picking up rare loot, and moved from there into thrift shops and markets.

In the clip a host works a Busan market and asks a shopper 뭐 득템 좀 하셨어요? — “did you score anything good?” Korean clips loanwords like this constantly: 셀카 from 셀프 카메라, 리모컨 from 리모트 컨트롤. The market run itself takes in 국제시장, the 깡통 night market and the 구제 second-hand clothing alleys.
