What does “cascos” mean in Spanish?
Descripción de unos cascos con cable en una bolsa
A1 Spanish listening practice · Spanish from Spain · Curated for beginners
In Spain, headphones are cascos, literally “helmets.” One word covers both the thing on your head for the bike and the thing on your head for music, and the context sorts it out. Many Latin American speakers say audífonos instead, and Spain also uses auriculares for earbuds, so cascos often signals bigger over-ear headphones.
The speaker describes unos cascos azules con cable (“blue headphones with a cable”) and stresses no son cascos de Bluetooth. Note the plural: headphones come as a pair, so Spanish says unos cascos where English says “a pair of headphones.” A helmet for a motorbike is el casco (singular), the same word.
