💡 Did you know?
тачка (tachka)
Russian car slang
“car, wheels” in slang; literally “wheelbarrow”

In a dictionary тачка is a wheelbarrow, the one-wheeled cart you push in a garden. In everyday slang it’s a car, like English “wheels” or “ride”: классная тачка!, “nice car!” It’s casual and a little cheeky, the word friends use, never a car dealer. The neutral word is машина.

Pixar’s Cars was released in Russian as Тачки, playing on this familiar slang word. The sketch uses it too: возьми тачку попрактичнее, “take a more practical car,” and the suggestion is a minivan.
