Where a textbook teaches কত দাম (koto dam, “what price”), real market Bengali asks koto kore for anything sold by weight, the everyday rhythm of buying fish, rice, or vegetables.
The reply, “৮০০ টাকা কেজি” (800 taka a kilo), sparks the classic protest «ও মাগো» (“oh my!”), pricier than beef. The seller’s Chittagong speech even bends করে toward “কইরাবে,” a hint of regional flavor. Learn koto kore and you can bargain from Dhaka to the village haat.
