What does “standhaft” mean in German?
A son interviews his mother, a human rights lawyer, and asks if she has advice for people who want to fight for justice. She answers “Bleibt standhaft” — stay firm. Standhaft describes someone who keeps their position under pressure and does not back down. Here it is warm, almost a blessing: believe in your work, take small steps, and do not let hard moments pull you away from what matters.
She says: “Bleibt standhaft und glaubt an das, was ihr tut.” — “Stay firm and believe in what you do.” Standhaft joins Stand (a standing position) with -haft (holding), so it pictures someone holding their ground. You usually hear it about people who stay strong under real pressure. More examples: “Sie blieb standhaft, obwohl alle gegen sie waren.” (She held firm, even though everyone was against her.) “Bleib standhaft, gib jetzt nicht auf.” (Stay strong, don’t give up now.) “Er ist ein standhafter Mensch.” (He is a steady, firm person.) It often shows up in speeches, advice, and news about people who hold firm under pressure.
