Slow speech Japanese

At slow pace Japanese gives you time to hear what classroom textbooks say is there. The particles (wa, ga, o, ni, e) sit clearly after the nouns they mark instead of getting absorbed into the rhythm, and the polite -masu ending stays audible at the end of each verb. Children’s read-alouds and kid-targeted shorts hold the longer vowels (おばあさん, the long-vowel grandmother, is clearly different from おばさん, the shorter aunt) and pause at the natural phrase break before the speech blurs particles into verbs. Pitch accent on common words (はし for chopsticks, はし for bridge) is most audible at this pace. Pick a story, listen once for the particles, then again for the verb endings.
