Who are “K3” and why are they everywhere in Belgium?
K3 is Belgium’s most successful girl band and Flemish kids' TV’s most enduring export. Founded in 1998 by Studio 100 with a lineup of Karen, Kristel, and Kathleen (the three K’s), the act has cycled through three more trios since, including the current Hanne, Marthe, and Julia. K3 sells out arenas, releases an album per year, and headlines amusement-park rides. Belgian and Dutch parents grew up on K3 themselves and now bring their daughters to the concerts.
In this Play James & Co clip, the host surprises the trio with their own mothers (“de quadri mama’s”) and tests the daughters: “Had jullie dit verwacht?”
