Hunting For Secret Toys At Walmart
A2 English listening practice · American English · Curated for beginners
What is a “Labubu”?
Labubu is a small plush toy with sharp teeth and pointy ears, designed by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung and sold by the Chinese collectibles company Pop Mart. The character first appeared in 2015 in Lung’s The Monsters picture-book series, but Labubus turned into a global craze in 2024, when American teens and adults started hunting for them at Walmart, Target, and Pop Mart’s own stores. Each Labubu is sold in a “blind box,” so you don’t know which color or design you’ll get until you open it.
In this clip, a young woman visits Walmart looking for Labubus on the toy shelves. “I literally just hit the Labubu jackpot at Walmart”: a moment of victory for any American collector.
