What does “ennaharda” mean in Egyptian Arabic?
In this family sketch a boy schemes for pocket money and kicks off a plan with النهاردة (ennaharda), “today”: «أنا النهاردة عازمك على خروج» (“today I’m treating you to a day out”). Where Modern Standard Arabic uses اليوم (al-yawm), Egyptians almost always say ennaharda. It’s one of the first words that marks a speaker as Egyptian rather than textbook-trained.
