What does “haqqak ʿala raasi” mean in Levantine Arabic?
Levantine Arabic has dozens of softeners that don’t translate cleanly into English. حقك على راسي (“your right is on my head”) is one of the strongest. It’s an apology that simultaneously acknowledges fault and submits to the listener’s claim. Used during arguments, it’s how a Levantine speaker says “fine, you were right, I owe you” without using the word “sorry.”
