💡 Did you know?
приятного просмотра (priyatnogo prosmotra)
Russian wish pattern
“enjoy the film,” literally “(I wish you) a pleasant viewing”

Приятного просмотра! is what a cinema cashier says as you leave the till: “enjoy the film.” It’s part of a pattern where желаю, “I wish,” is dropped and the wish stays in the genitive case: приятного аппетита (“enjoy your meal”), хорошего дня (“have a good day”), спокойной ночи (“good night”), удачи (“good luck”).

The -ого ending is pronounced “-ovo”: “priyatnovo prosmotra.” Просмотр is “viewing,” from смотреть, so you’ll also see приятного просмотра at the start of online videos. The friends here skip the romcom and the space film, choose a Robin Williams drama, buy ряд семь, места девять, десять, and get their приятного просмотра.
