Bravlereiden rankkaus ilman että tietää seuraavaa
B1 Finnish listening practice · Finnish · Curated for intermediate learners
What is “Brawl Stars” in Finnish gaming culture?
Brawl Stars is one of Finland’s biggest cultural exports: developed by Helsinki-based Supercell (also makers of Clash of Clans and Clash Royale) and released globally in 2018. Finnish kids play it constantly, and the game’s vocabulary has fed back into Finnish: brawler (a playable character) gets the Finnish plural brawlerit, and the verb “to rank” becomes rankata.
This clip is a TikTok challenge where the creator ranks brawlers without knowing what comes next. The challenge name itself, “bravlereiden rankkaus ilman että tietää seuraavaa,” shows the loanword pattern: English noun + Finnish case ending. Finnish welcomes loanwords by attaching native suffixes, the same way Whatsappata (to WhatsApp) entered the language.
