What does “motzetz” mean in Hebrew?
A dental hygienist and mom weighs in on a parenting battleground: «גמילה ממוצץ היא לא פשוטה» (“weaning off the pacifier isn’t simple”). מוצץ (motzetz) is a baby’s pacifier or dummy, built straight from the verb מצץ (“to suck”).
The active-participle shape (motzetz, literally “a sucker”) is how Hebrew names lots of devices: מטאטא (a broom, “a sweeper”), מחשב (a computer, “a calculator”). The clip’s other key word is גמילה (gmila), “weaning,” used for everything from pacifiers to bad habits. Practical vocabulary for any Hebrew-speaking household with a baby.
