What does “guarrillos” mean in Spanish?

A mum lists her chores and explains why she has to clean again: “son un poco guarrillos.” Guarro means dirty or gross, and guarrillos is the softer, warmer version — it sounds small and affectionate, more like “my little messy ones” than a real insult. Fond, not angry: the tone of a parent who just tidied up and knows it will not last. In Spain you hear guarro and guarra a lot, for a dirty plate or a messy person.

She says: “tengo que volver a limpiar la casa porque son un poco guarrillos” — “I have to clean the house again because they’re a bit messy.” The base word is guarro/guarra (dirty, gross). Guarrillos is guarro said in a way that sounds smaller and warmer — the same idea, but gentler in the mouth. A few ways you’ll meet this word in Spain: “Este plato está guarro” (This plate is dirty/gross). “No seas guarro” (Don’t be gross). “Tienes la cocina guarra” (Your kitchen is filthy). Tone matters a lot: said warmly to your own kids it’s playful, but calling a stranger guarro is rude and offensive. Keep it for close family, in a joking tone.
