What does “parisuhde” mean in Finnish?
This stand-up set turns on relationship jokes: «parisuhteessa on tärkeetä, että sen osapuolet täydentää toisiaan» (“in a relationship, it’s important that the partners complement each other”). Parisuhde is the everyday Finnish word for a romantic relationship, built from pari (“pair”) plus suhde (“relation”).
It’s a quietly Nordic concept: a parisuhde need not mean marriage, and Finns also speak of avoliitto (living together) and seurustelu (dating).
