💡 Did you know?

What do you say at a hotel: “I have a reservation”?

I have a reservation
English hotel phrase
what you say at a hotel or restaurant when you booked a room or table earlier

I have a reservation is the first thing to say at a hotel desk or a restaurant if you booked before you arrived. It tells the staff to look for your name in the system. A reservation is a place that is kept for you. You can add the name to make it faster: “I have a reservation under Walker.”

The guest here says “My name’s Rob Walker. I have a reservation,” and the receptionist quickly asks for his surname and gives him a room number. In British English you will also hear booking (“I have a booking”), and for hotels you can say “check in” for arriving and “check out” for leaving. If you did not book, ask “Do you have any rooms available?”
