About comprehensible input in Croatian

Learning Croatian by listening first

Comprehensible input is a simple idea: watch things you mostly understand, and the rest fills in over time. Croatian rewards it. Case endings that look arbitrary in a table become predictable once you have heard them a few hundred times in the same phrases, and the short everyday lines (evo, ajde, može, nema problema) come back in every clip. Reelang sorts the clips so you start with the ones you can follow.

Why street interviews and vlogs, not a course

Course dialogues are read slowly, in the standard, by people who know the script. Croatians talk faster than that, swallow endings, and say kaj, ča or što for the same word depending on where they grew up. A learner who only knows the course version freezes at the first market stall. Our transcripts stay with the real sentence, regional words included, so the text matches the sound.

Getting started here

Start with your level, then choose a listening difficulty where you catch most of what is said. From there, browse by topic depending on what you want to practise. Begin with slow, clear speakers and come back to the same clip a few times. When the endings stop sounding like noise, move up a level.
