Schatzsuche auf dem Hamburger Flohmarkt

What does “ergattern” mean in German?
Ergattern means to get hold of something that is hard to come by, like a bargain, a good seat, or the last ticket. It carries a little triumph: you did not just buy it, you managed to snag it. Germans use it for flea-market finds and sold-out concert tickets, and the er- prefix signals success. Ich habe die letzte Karte ergattert means “I snagged the last ticket.”
In this Hamburg flea-market haul, the creator finds small cork-topped jars for 25 cents and an antique glass with real silver that got haggled down to 10 euros; the verb is used for the jars and the glass. The clip uses runterhandeln for the haggling, which is herunterhandeln in full: “to bargain down.” A short pair to remember: ergattern is the find, runterhandeln is the price.
